12-11-2010 ST KESSOG'S PRIMARY SCHOOL VISIT

We had already got all dressed up today to meet our visitors from the railway, so it was convenient that we were visiting St Kessog’s Primary School that afternoon. We headed to the school with all of our gear on; Paul as ever dressed as King Robert, Chris was dressed as James Douglas, Jim as Edward the Impetuous, Gordon as Robert Keith, Jeanette as Mary Bruce and Arthur as Sergeant Murdoch. Duncan was the official photographer and had his new heritage centre polo shirt on. The whole school turned out in the assembly room to welcome us. As soon as we walked into the room you could see the surprise and awe in the children’s faces as we marched in with all our finery and weapons. Paul gave a great talk to the school about Bruce and his time spent in this area. Gordon gave a really good weapons talk and display and then we answered some of there questions. The children were so keen half the class had their hands up to ask a question at any one time. And then to the favourite bit, having a shot of the weapons and shields and of course everyone had to get a shot of wearing the helmets. You could see it in the children’s faces how excited and motivated they were by the visit. Hopefully it sparks an interest in Scottish history and culture for them that will stay with them forever. Thanks to everyone who came down to support us that day.
