Friday 9th September saw a large crowd of around 200 hundred + people gathered at the ancient
tribal lands of Stirling Castle for the annual commemoration of the battle of Stirling Bridge.
The parade headed off towards the old battle ground of Stirling Bridge led once again by
the Alloa and Bowmar pipe band who were in fine form as usual.
The saltires and Lion rampants flew proudly as the march headed down the hill from the castle
to the amazement of the guests who were heading up to the castle for a black tie dinner which
was being held by Stagecoach millionaire Mr Brian Soutar.
The march ended at the old Stirling Bridge, we then had a short ceremonie hosted by Ted
Christopher, with guests speakers, the lone piper, a few songs from Ted Christopher and a few
gifts presented as well.
A quote from ted website reads........
"Many thanks to everybody who came along to Stirling Brig last night. March was braw, speeches
inspiring and ceilidh a real hoot. Provost officially announced setting up of fund to raise a statue to
Wallace and De Moray at the bridge. Ridiculous situation that nothing (other than a tree and a
couple of plaques) mark the battlesite. We are about to put that right. Stirling Council put up £10,000
to kick off the fund. Raised another £213 at the ceilidh. Up and running"
A great night was had by all who attended the rugby club to see Ted and the Bannockburn band,
Scocha and Freedoms Flame, a packed hall had a great night of entertainment and the stovies went doon
a treat as usual magic !!!!
A big well done to Ted and all the guys behind the scences and all the helpers on the night.
We are all looking forward to next years event............"bring it on".
A big thanks to all the Artizans who took the time to come through to Stirling.
