The venue of Stirling rugby club was the place to be on Sunday 30th August 2009 for the annual Scribblers Picnic where we had musicians help the fight against cancer.
In the arena we had 3 venues the main stage, and two other marquees for the rock bands etc, where the gathering crowd could take in seeing their favourite band.
The main stage had the official opening at 12.45 and the first band the Trossachs ceilidh band got the line up under way followed by the youngest band Double trouble, who must be around the age of 9 or 10 and I must say they were excellent.
A total of 14 bands played the main stage throughout the day, the highlight for me was Albannach who gave another brilliant set, this was followed by Ted Christopher and Bannockburn again first class. Just to add the 5 piece all girl group Stageworx Showcase were great to listen too and watch, this group can go far and I hope they do well in the future.
The other marquees were doing well with the rock bands belting out some familiar sounds and also some new ones as well.
I must congratulate all the acts who performed at Scribblers the standard was first class and the music industry in Scotland is in great shape with plenty of first class talent coming through.
(If only our national football team were in the same shape !!)
Around about 1.30 –2.00pm the arena was very busy with the crowd increasing by the hour, the stalls and fun fair were doing good business as well as the beer tent.
The weather throughout the day was dull and overcast but the rain stayed off till about 5.00pm when the drizzle started but it did not put a damper on things, the bands kept playing as the folk danced in the rain.
A big well done to Duncan and Jim for representing Strathleven Artizans once again in this the last event in what as been a very busy period over the last 2 months we are certainly looking forward to our wee break in Teba on Thursday 3rd Sept.
A special thanks to Dave and Christine Murdoch for reinforcement at our stall, also the tea and coffee and their help throughout the day thanks guys.
It was great to see some well kent faces at our stall i.e. George Boyle and his wife Susan (Paisley Tartan Army), Bruce (Montrose) Ogilvie and his wife Susan (Crann Tara) among others.
A Big well done to all the bands and acts who performed and gave their time to raise funds for the 5 Cancer Charities i.e. Marie Curie Cancer Care, CHAS, Strathcarron Hospice, MACMILLAN Cancer Support and Maggie Cancer Caring Centres.
Well done one and ALL you are a credit to Scotland………….!!
At the end of a long day it was a nice treat to call into one of Stirling’s finest curry house’s for some well earned dinner. (It was actually a Chinese restaurant and we had a buffet) Where Jim got his curry from nobody knows.....!!
Looking forward to next year…………………………..
Yours in Scotland
Jim Tannock.
