11-02-2010 VISIT TO DALREOCH PRIMARY SCHOOL

Dalreoch Primary School , Castlehill, Dumbarton

Strathleven Artizans were invited along to Dalreoch Primary in Castlehill Dumbarton to meet the school children and teachers who over the last few weeks or so have been busy learning all about Scottish history with visits to place’s like Stirling castle.
We had the pleasure of talking to 2 classes from primary 5-6 and primary 1-2, the look on the kids faces was a picture as 4 members from Strathleven Artizans turned up in their class dressed up in full medieval wear, chainmail, helmets, swords and daggers etc., everyone of them let out a big roar when they saw King Robert the Bruce(Paul Hunter). The kids really know there history and told us about their trip to Stirling etc and what they have learned.
They were fascinated about the fact King Robert the Bruce hunted on and kept horse’s on the land that their school stood on and that he lived nearby in his Royal Manor house.
The kids ask questions about King Robert living in Renton at his manor house in Pillanflatt and listened intently as Duncan Thomson told them all about him and his family living there and how he built up his Manor House.
They learned about the Good Sir James Douglas and how he went on to take the King’s heart to Jerusalem and getting killed in battle at Teba.
After hearing about Robert the Bruce and Scottish history all the kids had a great time trying on variious helmets, holding swords and other weapons of that time.

All the kids were great and their knowledge of Scottish history and KRB is amazing and a credit to their teachers, their classroom was done up with bunting of Saltires and Lion Rampant’s and looked great, so a big well done to them all, and keep up the good work.

We had a good talk with some of the teachers who were just as amazed with our costumes as the kids were, and asked us all to come back again.
One of the teachers told us that one of the children had said to one of the other teachers who did not know that we were there, that he just saw and spoke to King Robert the Bruce, Miss said to him no dear Robert the Bruce (Bless Him) is up in heaven, but he said No Miss he is in the class room next door “brilliant”or what ???

Dalreoch School is situated at the top of Castlehill and the views from there are amazing you can see all the way North towards Ben Lomond, East towards Glasgow and south towards Greenock and down the river Clyde stunning views all round.
A big thank you to all the Kids and staff of Dalreoch for inviting us and hope they enjoyed our visit as much as we did………Thanks.

A Big thanks to Duncan, Paul, Chris and Jim for representing Strathleven Artizans and spreading the word about KRB.

Yours   Jim Tannock.
