31-08-2011 PRESS CONFERENCE MALAGA SPAIN

Two days after our arrival in Teba we had an evening visit from the mayoress and cultural attache. Jim Tannock, David Murdoch and myself were asked to attend a press conference with them at the Ministry of Culture for Andalucia the next day. We were delighted to help promote the 7th 'Jornadas Escocesas' (Scottish Days) designed to honour the memory of Sir James Douglas.

To walk into a press conference attended by 20-30 journalists, in front of TV cameras, was a bit daunting but Bowman James did us all proud. Asked to explain why we come to Teba every year, the bold Jim explained that Bruce had died in Renton after extracting a promise from Douglas to take his heart to Jerusalem, a journey that ended with Douglas's death at Teba. Jim also managed to mention all our friends in Teba, especially Mark and Lindsay at La Caleta. We duly appeared on Andalucian TV and in many local papers.

After the conference we were taken on a walking tour of Malaga's stunning city centre and treated to a taste of local food and drink. We hope to build on these cultural links next year by inviting a politician from Scotland's Culture Ministry to come to Teba with us.
