5-06-2010 F*** Longshanks Annual Barbecue

The rain stayed off and it was a great day for everyone who attended.  The food was excellent and was professionally prepared with minimal burning by Jim Tannock and Paul Hunter.  We had some great tunes on the go with Duncan Brown and Alex on the pipes.  Gordon gave us a few cracking renditions of his Black Douglas song accompanied by his bodhran and then followed up with some Corries classics.  Everyone left full and happy, looking forward to Scribblers Picnic the next day.  A great event that will continue for many years to come.

If Longshanks had never left England and invaded Scotland we would never have had Wallace rising to prominence and becoming our hero.  Balliol would probably have been king without English over lordship and his line would have ruled.  Bruce would have remained a noble but never rising to kingship.  The nation of Scots was taught a good lesson by Longshanks how to be patriots and fight for what is important.  Longshanks ultimately gave us Wallace, Bruce, Douglas and all the other heroes, and of course the nation as we know it today.
