04-04-2009 DECLARATION OF ARBROATH COMMEMORATION

On Saturday 4th April the Artizans made their pilgrimage to Arbroath…made famous by our King Robert the Bruce with his declaration of independence.

After walking through the main streets, we made our way up to the magnificent ruins of Arbroath Abbey, clothed in Ancient red stone, casting a shadow over the local landscape like some sleeping giant.
Looking at the now ruins fills the visitor in awe, going back 700 years in history to the days of toil and glory, shaped by the struggles and hardships by the Scottish people as one nation.

We were then entertained with renditions from the heart by guest speakers who showered the standing guests with passion and with a call of unity. In case anyone thought they could hear the past ghostly screams for independence in the background, it was just the local bowls team changing ends!

Musical entertainment came from the now famous Albannach, who play as if from the souls of our ancient ancestors. Also we had music from a local piper and new ‘Bowman’ Ted Christopher who kept the foot soldiers merry in loud voice.
Once again the Artizans will travel wherever to celebrate Scotland’s History.
